Paradise, like you wouldn't believe, is not so far away after all. Only three hours away from Manila, the North hides this mesmerizing beach which keeps you far from reality and would make you want to never go back. Playa La Caleta, also known as Matikis Beach to locals, is a 60-hectare white sand beach hidden in the municipality of Morong, Bataan. Perhaps, I could give you a hundred reasons why you're gonna have to put this on top of your list, but here are the top ten.

1. The peace and quiet

The scenery, the sparkling blue water, the silent rustling of the waves — all this minus the crowd. There are numerous beaches in Bataan, but this one seems to be so hidden away, secluded from the others that you wouldn't find many tourists here. The management also limits the number of guests to keep the beach unspoiled. If you're lucky, the beach could be all yours even in summer season.

If you're up to leave the world behind for a while, chill on a hammock or a tire swing, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, then you'd be happy to know this — there is no coverage area in Playa La Caleta. No texts, no calls, what could disturb you?

2. The swimming experience

It's just impossible to resist. The white, powdery sand will greet you as you walk towards the sea. The water is very shallow, you can walk several meters away from the shore and it simply gets on a waist-deep level. It's clean, clear, and not too salty.

What you see under is even better. You'll find schools of fish swimming around, one group of a kind and another. A better snorkeling view awaits on the far side of the cove, on your way to Miguelito Island (the islet right in front of the cove).

You simply can't say no to this.

3. The water sports

The resort made sure you won't run out of water activities. You have skim boarding, wind surfing, kayaking, sailboarding, and paddle boarding to choose from — or you can try them all. There is a sports shop where you can rent facilities from the management and do the activities sans guide, but if it's your first time, it's nothing to be worried about as well. They offer guides who can teach you the sports.

However, if you feel that you aren't gutsy enough to do these water activities, there's a 75-feet Slip 'n Slide for kids and kids at heart to try. They've got numerous floats for you to choose from.

4. The cliff diving experience

If you're going to PLC, cliff jumping is a must-not-miss adventure. You can either ride a boat or trek your way (trekking's way much more fun, though!) to Miguelito Island, where you'll find beautiful rock formations. There, you'll locate tidal pools and of course, the perfect cliff diving spots.

5. The hiking and trekking adventures

If you're up for more adventure, there are hiking trails going to the dam and a 50-foot waterfall which could take you up to 3 hours to reach. You can also trek to Miguelito Island.

You don't have to be a trekking professional to do this because the trail is not too risky, even for kids. Despite this, tour guides are handy if you don't feel safe doing it alone.

6. The eco-friendliness

Playa La Caleta is an eco-tourism resort, which is why you've probably already noticed that although they've got multiple water sports, none of those uses motor or gas. There are also goose, ducks, and whatnot that exist on the beach but instead of having them removed, they were tamed and placed in a mini zoo area.

Look what we found!

The "Leave no trace" policy is practiced as well. Guests are encouraged to bring their non-biodegradable trash upon checking out. Garbage bins are also situated all around the beach, and penalty is set for guests caught littering.

It's just heartwarming and good to hear that we're enjoying nature without actually destroying it, and who doesn't like a clean surrounding?

7. The accommodation

The staff are very accommodating and friendly. They'll make sure you enjoy your stay, and you can approach them whenever you need them. You'll find their office just beside the sports shop. Hands down to great service!

8. The picturesque surroundings

I have no words, it's just perfect.

Everything — the fine sand, clear water, rock formations — a canvas of God's amazing grace. If you'd like to see more photos, check out my travelogue.

9. The variety of fun things you can do

I've mentioned trekking, cliff jumping, numerous water sports, and swimming. But hey, the fun doesn't end there! During day time, you can fly a kite, play beach volley, badminton, or beach football, have fun with water guns and even get a massage. When the sun's down, you can make a bonfire and play board games. Whatever it is, ask the staff and they'll willingly assist.

Beach volley!

To clarify, some other guests were using the net, so we had to play without it. But they do have the ball and net available for renting!

10. The food

Playa La Caleta offers boodle fights by the river stream, which includes fruits, vegetables, and of course, a variety of fresh seafood. Water from the waterfalls flow right under you, matched with a beautiful scenery of the beach. You may book in advance in their office and the staff will have your boodle fight set up for you.

Guests can inform PLC in advance to avail set meals and meal packages. There's also a general store where you can buy food, drinks, and such. Moreover, there are portable grillers available for renting as well as an open-type kitchen and grill area if you brought pre-cooked food. Aside from these, a restaurant and cafe will also be opening soon!

Moreover, the management stated that there will be more upcoming events to be excited about, such as the film festival, eagle watching, and turtle laying event.
